For the last two years Nick has been taken care of by Sacha. Sacha has given Nick a job, a home and undying love. Lucky for him, Nick has managed to achieve some form of personal happiness by not-really-trying. This is not to say that he doesn't love Sacha. He does. He loves the attention that Sacha bestows on him. He loves the ease with which Sacha makes his life flow. Nick loves being admired – who doesn't? When you have low self-esteem, having someone say you're special helps a lot – and Sacha very much loves Nick. It's not that he didn't want to marry Sacha. That's not true. He just didn't want to tamper with what seemed to be working fine, as is. Why ruin modest success by trying for more? Nick genuinely loves Sacha. He means a lot to him, and not just financially. So when Sacha proposed that they get married, Nick agreed. It was the easiest thing to do. After all, Sacha was going to do all the planning. Nick still turns his head and looks at the cute young boys – full of life – when they walk by. They remind him of…well…him. Over the last two years, Nick has become more like his grandfather, Pete. He doesn't have Pete's cold-hearted calculating quality, but he has his ability to think of himself first. The difference is, Nick knows that he's doing it and feels badly – hence the pot – and Pete doesn't care. |
