here! Presents Sherri Beachfront: Straight Girl in a Queer World

HIV/AIDS-Awareness Activist Hosts Podcast on here! Networks

March 13 – here!, America's premium gay television network, is proud to have HIV/AIDS activist, educator and counselor Sherri Beachfront host a here! Networks podcast from her unique perspective as an HIV+ "Straight Girl in a Queer World."

Also known as the former lead singer of the hit 1980's pop band Get Wet, Sherri has been involved with many organizations, including Project Outreach, and has been asked to speak at numerous events including "The Ribbon of Hope Celebration" in 2006. "Straight Girl in a Queer World" will bring Sherri's years of experience both as an HIV+ woman and as a public speaker into conversations with a diverse group of people who are making great strides in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Podcasts are audio or video files which can be downloaded from the internet onto an iPod or other digital music device. Typically similar to a radio broadcast, podcasts offer users the opportunity to listen to pre-recorded shows whenever (and wherever) they want.

As a woman living with HIV for 22 years, Sherri has carved out a very successful career for herself as an actress/singer, writer and nationally known AIDS educator. A nationally recognized public speaker for UCLA AIDS Institute and Being Alive, she also serves on the Board of Directors and as the outreach coordinator for Women at Risk. Guests featured on her show include Jasmine Guy (A Different World, Chicago), former Olympic Gold Medalist diver Greg Louganis, Randy Jones (The Village People), and comedian Sandra Valls (The Latin Divas of Comedy Tour).

She still manages to keep a sense of humor about her work by quipping, "When I was the lead singer of my band Get Wet in 1981 I had no idea I would be talking about body fluids for the next 23 years!"

Sherri goes on to put her show in perspective by saying, "We seek to educate through shared experiences and entertaining at the same time. To have an entertainment talk show that also addresses HIV/AIDS in a variety of ways. Highlighting celebrities, actors, writers and entertainers involved as AIDS Activists, AIDS organizations and including positive people who have thrived and share their experience, strength and hope. Hope is the most powerful medicine available to all of us!"

here! is pleased to continue to open the forum to unique and diverse angles on a topic that affects us all.
