LOS ANGELES – July 16, 2007 - here! Films, the theatrical distribution and worldwide sales division of here! Networks, America's premium gay television network, is pleased to announce that it has acquired North American distribution rights to the award-winning comedy "Fat Girls," written, directed, starring and produced by emerging filmmaker Ash Christian. here! Films' sister company, Regent Releasing, will handle the film's theatrical release.

"'Fat Girls' explores the angst and social isolation so many teenagers face as they struggle to fit in during the tough high school years. We hope audiences will fall in love with these characters." Christian's comedy focuses on the trials and tribulations of Rodney Miller (Christian), a gay theater-obsessed high school senior who has his heart set on becoming a Broadway star. With his overweight best friend and fellow social outcast Sabrina (Ashley Fink) by his side, the pair tries to find dates for their high school graduation dance sending them on a journey of self-discovery. The film also stars Jonathan Caouette in his narrative acting debut. Caouette's "Tarnation" was an indie favorite in 2004. In addition, Robin de Jesus of "Camp" fame plays Rudy, who becomes fast friends with Rodney and Sabrina. The "Fat Girls" venture began with a modest budget in Christian's hometown of Paris, Texas. The entire project was shot in a small town called Waxahachie, about two hours from Paris, when Christian was just 20 years old. "I am thrilled to be working with here! Films and Regent Releasing on the release of my first feature film, 'Fat Girls,'" said writer/director Christian. "The story of the film is one I am very passionate about telling and I'm very happy a company like here! feels a story like this needs to be shared with the world as well." After making its world premiere at the Tribeca International Film Festival in 2006, it went on to screen at various festivals around the world including the Torino GLBT Film Festival, Frameline: The San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, the London Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, the Philadelphia Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, the North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, the Birmingham Shout Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, the Indianapolis Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and Image + Nation Montreal, among others. Outfest named Christian the Outstanding Emerging Talent, the NCGLFF named the film Best Feature, Montreal awarded the film the Coup de Cour, Birmingham Shout lauded the film with the Grand Jury Prize as Best Feature and Indianapolis showered the film with honors including Best Feature, Best Comedy, Best Actor for Christian and Best Actress for Ashley Fink.
